Individuals to help "Adopt a Village/Child/Family"

This is a post from Tahira who will be going to Pakistan next week. They are in the process of networking and working with established local NGOs on rehabilitating the survivors on a one to one basis. It will include communities/villages which NGOs are already working with and also help people with whom they have personal ties. (ie: the families of local shopkeepers they know who were affected, domestic help and their families living in the Norther areas, etc. There are hundreds of these situations). Further details will be posted as to where funds can be donated and how you can connect with a village or child.

"adopt a village" and "adopt a child" are two ideas we are working on, and trying to organise it to get a system in place. this is for the long term and will continue for years to come. any suggestions on this will be greatly welcomed and appreciated. thanks.
---Tahira.

  • Helping on a one on one basis will also help the cause at large and put a personal, human face on the rebuilding efforts. Sometimes the individual help can have a lasting and long term effect.

ps: Tahira is my mother(!), so I can vouch for her in case you intend to donate.
